Coral Opulent Raja Ampat Islands
Raja Ampat Island or the Four Kings is the name given to the group of Island in West Papua province of Indonesia. They are located near the northwest tip of the Bird’s Head Peninsula on the New Guinea Island. The Raja Ampat comprises of a group of 1500 small islands, the main four islands are Waigeo, Misool, Salawati and Batanta. Misool being the home for the ancient rock painting. Some of the islands are in the northern part of the Australian continent.

There are 540 different types of colourful corals and more than 1000 varieties of coral fish and around 700 types of mollusks. These form almost 75 % of the total species in the world. Some areas contains a wide varieties of fishes and sharks are also sighted in some areas. The group of islands contain at least three ponds particularly in Misool area which contains non-poisonous jellyfishes.
The Raja Ampat Regency is the new regency carved out from the Sorong Regency in 2004. There is the largest marine national park in Indonesia. The Coral Triangle comprises of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Island and East Timor, and the diversity of marine life is much more in this area compared to the others. The Coral Triangle is the heart of the coral reef biodiversity in the world. As per report made by the Nature Conservancy and Conservation International, the marine survey conducted in this area reveals that the diversity of marine life here is the highest in the world having almost 75 % of the total species in the world.
