Kelimutu Lakes A Mystical Trio-Lakes
Mount Kelimutu is an amazing place to visit in Indonesia. The Mount holds tri-colored crater lakes, Kelimutu lakes which are most phenomenal site to visit in Flores. Beyond the ‘steaming mountain’, the island is known as most mystical, haunted and popular tempat angker.

About the Kelimutu Lake
The Kelimutu Lake is one of the most beautiful Crater Lake from around the world. It is located on the Island of Flores in Indonesia. It has three different crater lakes, one in turquoise colour, one in shade of red and other in blue green colour. All these three lakes are formed by volcanoes, but scientist too haven’t understood main reason behind different changing colour of the lakes.

Tiwu Ata Mbupu is the name of the first lake, while Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai is the name of the second lake. While, the third lake’s name is Tiwu Ata Polo. The 1st and 2nd lake are located close to each other, the first is also known as ‘Lake of Ancestral soul’ and 2nd is called as ‘Young people’s soul’. While the third is known as lake of evil spirit. Early morning is the best time to get a glimpse of this place, while some people prefer to visit during sunset.
Kelimutu National Park
The Craters lakes are part of Kelimutu National Park. The area is protected by international recognized by UNEP – United Nations Environment Program. The National Park holds diverse biodiversity, cultural heritage and is visited by thousands of tourist each year. The Mount Kelibara is the highest peak of 1,731-meter and is house to many spices and endemic species of birds too.
How to reach there?
To reach from Maumere to Moni you need to cross 62Km –one and half hours. Public transport connects Ende and Bajawa with Moni. As the National Park is located between Ende and Moni. There are several hotels and Inn to stay, Market is open for week long.
