Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque of UAE
Mosque, a place that unites cultural variety of Islamic world into one. This ‘Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque’ is a perfect blend of modern and old historical values of arts and architecture. It is located in the capital city, Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi is capital of United Arab Emirates. The tradition followed by people are Sunni Islam. The Grand Mosque is also considered to be key of worship in UAE.
The Grand Mosque:
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, late president of United Arab Emirates initiated the ‘Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque’. He wanted to create a structure which brings Islamic culture to world. The late president’s last resting place is situated beside the mosque. The Grand Mosque was constructed in 11-long years from 1996-to-2007. It is largest Mosque of UAE, and eight in the world.
The Mosque has spread across 12-hectares or 30-acres of land, approximately 290m X 420m. The exterior landscape is richly designed and also vehicle parking space. The interior marks lushness of art and architecture. It is key place for Friday gathering and place to offer Eid Prayer. This place is visited by around 40,000 people during Eid.
Many artisan and material from around world unified to work on this Grand Mosque. Around 3,000 workers and 38-companies were involved in design and planning of this wonderful structure. Countries like Germany, Pakistan, Malaysia, China, Iran, United Kingdom, Morocco, Italy, India, Greece, New Zealand and United Arab Emirates helped with their artisans and material to build this brilliant structure. The design has a touch of Moorish, Persian and Mughal architecture. The floor plan and dome layout is designed with idea of Badshahi Mosque. The Grand Mosque can accommodate around 40,000 people. The Mosque has two prayer hall, the main can accommodate around 7,000 of worshipers and other small prayer hall has capacity of 1,500 people.The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has four Minarets of 351-feet high. The design of whole Mosque is best blend of Persian, Moorish and Mughal architecture.
- The carpet spread in main prayer hall is known to be world’s largest carpet. This carpet is around 60,570 square feet long. It required around 1,200 to 1,300 carpet knitters to make this marvellous piece of carpet. It is designed by Artist ‘Ali Khaliqi’ and made under ‘Iran Carpet Company’. It weighs over 35-ton made from wool. The wool was specially imported from Iran and New Zealand.
- Chandelier gives a fabulous touch to enrich the look of interior. There are seven imported chandeliers from ‘Munich Germany’, which has millions of Swarovski crystals in it. One of the seven chandeliers in the Grand Mosque ranks second largest chandelier in world.
- The pool is designed in such brilliant way that it reflects the spectacular mosque’s columns. The 96-coloumns are made from marble and pearls, which stand proudly in main prayer hall.
Also, the lightning of Grand Mosque is designed spectacular by Architects Speirs which reflect segment of Moon. The 99-different names of Allah are written on Qibla in unique style of Kufic calligraphy.
